Site Name: Moundsville City Building Expansion Site

Location: 800/802 6th Street and 508/516 Jefferson Avenue Moundsville, WV

History: 800 and 802 6th Street are the location of Moundsville’s current city building and parking lot. The parking lot was used formerly by the City as  an area for vehicle maintenance operations. 508 Jefferson Avenue contains a residential structure that has been converted into office space and 516 Jefferson contains a residential structure. In order to make room for the new city building and new parking lots, these structures will need to be demolished.

Brownfield Issue: The current structures potentially have asbestos due to the time period of their construction. The parking lot will need to be surveyed for underground storage tanks, due to its past as an area for vehicle maintenance operations.

How did the EPA Assessment Grant help this site? Funds were used to complete asbestos inspections on current structures. Funds were also used to perform a GPR (Ground Penetrating Radar) survey on the parking lot to locate any underground storage tanks.

Next Steps: The City of Moundsville will be moving forward with their plans to construct the new city building in early 2021. Construction will take approximately 12 months to complete.
